Mechanical Design Engineer
The client is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Plumbing dept. to assist in the scoping, design, and development of mechanical systems, ensuring that all work meets client needs and project specifications. The role involves close collaboration with clients, contractors, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions within set deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Scoping & Design:
- Assist in the scoping and designing of mechanical systems for projects, ensuring all technical requirements are met.
- Provide support during the design phase, from conceptualisation to final implementation.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, regulations, and standards, including energy efficiency standards.
- Client & Contractor Communication:
- Liaise with clients to understand their needs and provide requested information in a timely and effective manner.
- Communicate effectively with clients and contractors throughout the project lifecycle to ensure smooth collaboration and project progress.
- Technical Support:
- Assist with technical design and drafting tasks using AutoCAD or related software.
- Provide technical expertise in energy auditing, including Domestic BER (Building Energy Rating) and Non-Domestic BER, as well as other energy efficiency and auditing standards.
- Provide support in the selection and integration of renewable energy systems, such as PV (solar photovoltaic), biomass, and heat pumps.
- Project Assistance:
- Support the overall project management process, ensuring designs align with scope, budget, and deadlines.
- Assist with documentation and reporting, ensuring all project-related data is well-organised and accessible.
- Renewable Energy Systems:
- Collaborate with the team in the design and integration of renewable energy solutions, ensuring optimal efficiency and performance.
- Assist in the evaluation and implementation of sustainable technologies such as heat pumps, biomass systems, and solar energy (PV).
- Analysis & Reporting:
- Use strong IT and analytical skills to assist in the assessment of system performance, energy consumption, and project feasibility.
- Provide analysis and recommendations based on energy performance assessments and other relevant metrics.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements:
- Degree in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or related technical drawing software for producing accurate and detailed designs.
- Familiarity with energy auditing standards, including Domestic and Non-Domestic BER, and other relevant certifications.
- Experience in the design and implementation of renewable energy systems, such as photovoltaic (PV) systems, biomass, and heat pumps.
- Experience:
- Relevant third-level project experience in mechanical engineering, energy auditing, or related fields.
- Experience working with renewable energy technologies and understanding their integration into mechanical systems is highly advantageous.
- IT & Analytical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in IT tools, including design software, spreadsheets, and other analytical tools.
- Ability to analyse technical data and provide actionable insights or recommendations.
- Communication Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to clients, contractors, and internal teams.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in the design and implementation of energy-efficient mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and standards related to energy efficiency and sustainability.
- Experience with energy simulation software or similar tools.
- Familiarity with project management practices or tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).
