We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to contribute to a New Product Development (NPD) initiative, focusing on process development within a medical device environment. This will be a 12 month contracting position which will be fully onsite.
This role will involve supporting multiple projects related to large-scale automation systems used for the assembly and testing of medical devices. The successful candidate will oversee process and equipment development from initial concept through to full implementation.
An ideal fit for this role would be an engineer with hands-on experience in automated manufacturing within the medical device sector, particularly with automated visual inspection systems or machine controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-yield, high-capability automated processes.
- Optimize equipment performance to ensure efficient, repeatable, and scalable manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with vendors to develop and qualify automated inspection systems for integration into production.
- Work alongside R&D teams to refine medical device designs and facilitate their transition to large-scale manufacturing.
- Manage vendor relationships for equipment design and development, supporting projects from initial conception through to onsite implementation.
- Improve existing automation processes to support New Product Introductions (NPIs) and enhance inspection methods.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, from early-stage process development to full-scale manufacturing.
- Lead validation and qualification activities for equipment and processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support the advancement of current and future manufacturing processes.
- Oversee the commissioning of new manufacturing technologies, production ramp-up, and process validation.
- Assess the environmental impact of new processes, equipment, and chemicals in collaboration with EHS teams to minimize risks.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree (Level 8) in Engineering or Science (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electronic, Production, or related fields).
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working with automated equipment in a regulated industry.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proven leadership abilities.
- Experience in mentoring and knowledge sharing.
