We are currently looking for a Health & Safety Officer to join our client's team for a major civil infrastructure project in Donegal. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health and safety within the civil construction sector and be committed to promoting a safety-first culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the implementation of site-specific health and safety plans, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor safety performance and identify potential hazards or risks.
- Ensure that all workers and contractors adhere to health and safety regulations, wearing appropriate PPE and following safe work practices.
- Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents, providing reports and recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of safety audits, inspections, training, and incidents.
- Assist in the preparation and review of risk assessments, method statements, and safe work procedures.
- Promote a proactive health and safety culture on site and lead by example in the implementation of safety initiatives.
- Report directly to the Site Manager and Project Manager on safety performance and issues.
Key Requirements:
- A degree in construction Health and Safety (or equivalent) is essential.
- At least 2 years of experience working as a Health & Safety Officer within the construction or civil engineering sector.
- Experience working on large infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, or utilities.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices, particularly within civil construction.
- Proven track record in carrying out site inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence site personnel at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve safety goals.
- Full driving license
