Role description
Our client within the Retail & Manufacturing space is looking for a Senior Accountant to join the business covering the UK & Ireland entities. This is a newly created role due to growth and expansion that offers hybrid working and excellent work life balance. The Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in ensuring financial accuracy and compliance, contributing to the organisation's success through the principles of Accountability, Goals, Collaboration, and Informing.
This role oversees critical accounting functions, including preparation of financial statements, Accounts Payable, intercompany and bank reconciliations, tax compliance, and hedging processes from the parent company, while supporting global accounting initiatives.
Core Responsibilities Accountability
- Manage the closing of financial periods and preparation of financial accounts accurate and within the established deadlines.
- Own the preparation, posting, and reconciliation of intercompany transactions, ensuring consistency and accuracy across entities.
- Manage multi-currency bank reconciliations and credit card transactions, promptly investigating discrepancies and ensuring resolution to maintain accurate cash position reporting.
- Lead balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure all entries are substantiated and adjustments are timely.
- Guarantee compliance with tax regulations by preparing accurate tax calculations, filing returns, and coordinating timely payments.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of Accounts Payable (AP) and payments, maintaining compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Record and reconcile hedging transactions to mitigate financial risks and ensure alignment with organisational strategies.
- Handle depreciation schedules and ensure alignment with organisational policies and applicable accounting standards.
- Ensure accurate foreign currency revaluations and differences.
- Guarantee salaries effectively posted.
Goals
- Drive process in AP, intercompany, and reconciliation workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
- Assist in achieving organisational financial targets through accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Continuously develop technical accounting skills to align with industry standards and evolving business needs.
- Supervise and support growth of junior member as they process mainly AR and intercompany operational transactions.
Collaboration
- Partner with the Global Accountant to support financial reporting, audits, and cross-functional projects.
- Coordinate with finance teams across regions to streamline intercompany charges and reconcile discrepancies.
- Work closely with treasury teams on cash flow optimisation and hedging strategies.
- Collaborate with external auditors and tax consultants to address compliance requirements and financial audits.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless financial operations and knowledge sharing.
Inform
- Provide stakeholders with clear, timely, and accurate financial reports, ensuring transparency in financial performance.
- Present reconciliations and variance analyses to management for informed decision-making.
- Keep the finance team and leadership informed of any potential risks or discrepancies, ensuring proactive issue resolution.
- Share insights on tax, compliance, and regulatory updates to ensure organisational alignment.
- Document processes and maintain clear guidelines for AP, reconciliations, and other critical accounting functions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on reporting, balance and intercompany reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and applicable tax regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, preferably Netsuite; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across global teams and leading a junior accountant.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy.
- Spanish as a first or second language highly valued.
