A fast-growing technology group in Japan is looking for a Head of Finance (potential CFO) to build and lead a robust finance function across its portfolio companies. This is a senior leadership opportunity to strengthen financial controls, enhance reporting standards, and play a critical role in IPO preparation. You will work closely with executives, investors, and management teams across multiple businesses, making this an ideal role for a finance leader who thrives in a high-impact, fast-evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead the group finance function across multiple portfolio companies in Japan
- Build and maintain strong financial controls, policies, and governance frameworks
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting (JGAAP; IFRS exposure preferred)
- Manage consolidation of group financials and deliver performance reporting to management and investors
- Ensure compliance with Japanese tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements
- Lead finance readiness for IPO, including internal controls, audit processes, and reporting standards
- Partner with portfolio company management teams to improve financial discipline and transparency
- Support M&A activities including financial due diligence, integration planning, and exit strategy execution
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or related leadership roles
- Strong working knowledge of JGAAP and financial reporting in Japan
Soft Skills:
- Hands-on, proactive mindset and ability to operate in a fast-changing startup environment
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills
- Comfortable working across multiple businesses and partnering with diverse management teams
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Fluent
- English: Intermediate to Business level
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience at a public accounting firm or audit firm
- Experience supporting IPO preparation and/or listed company reporting
- CPA, USCPA, or equivalent professional certification
