A top-tier global insurance group is seeking an experienced Liability Insurance Underwriter to play a core role in driving underwriting strategy from Japan to the wider Asia region.
This position sits at the heart of corporate liability underwriting, combining deep market expertise with global standards to deliver high-value risk solutions to corporate clients.
You will work closely with brokers, customers, and internal stakeholders while shaping portfolio performance and contributing directly to regional growth strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and drive Japan and global liability underwriting strategies, including local underwriting policy development
- Manage the liability portfolio in Japan, ensuring achievement of profitability and growth targets
- Build and strengthen relationships with brokers and corporate clients to expand business opportunities
- Make underwriting decisions on key and referral cases, providing expert judgement on complex risks
- Ensure underwriting governance, controls, and quality in line with group policies and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate cross-functionally on product development, pricing tools, and strategic initiatives
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- 5+ years of underwriting experience in corporate liability insurance within the Japanese market
- 5+ years of experience in the commercial non-life insurance industry
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication skills to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- High analytical ability to interpret complex data and risk information
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Native-level fluency required
- English: Business-level proficiency required
