Planner / Scheduler
Description
They work closely with project managers and teams to develop detailed project plans, defining tasks, timelines, and resource requirements. Utilising project management software, they create Gantt charts and critical path analyses to visualise project schedules and identify potential bottlenecks.
A Project Planner/Scheduler monitors project progress, updates schedules as needed, and communicates with stakeholders to ensure projects stay on track. They play a crucial role in optimising project efficiency, resource allocation, and overall project success within the PMO framework.
Responsibilities
As a planner scheduler, your responsibilities include examining plans for a project and developing a workable schedule, as well as making recommendations on existing schedules to increase productivity, decrease cost, and balance the workload. The job goes beyond simply deciding who goes where when.
While working as a Project Planner/Scheduler, you will be required to:
* Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to understand project objectives and requirements.
* Develop comprehensive project plans, including defining project scope, deliverables, tasks, and timelines.
* Create detailed project schedules using project management software and tools.
* Identify critical path activities and dependencies to optimise project timelines.
* Assess resource requirements and allocating personnel, equipment, and materials for project tasks.
* Ensure optimal resource utilisation and avoiding overallocation.
* Continue monitoring project progress and performance against the established schedule.
* Identify potential delays or risks and implement corrective actions.
* Generate regular progress reports and present them to project managers and stakeholders.
* Provide updates on project status, milestones, and variances from the original plan.
* Assist in identifying potential risks and uncertainties that could impact project timelines.
* Collaborate with project teams to develop risk mitigation strategies.
* Manage changes to the project schedule resulting from scope changes or unforeseen events.
* Assess the impact of changes on project timelines and communicating adjustments to stakeholders.
* Communicate with project managers, team members, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with the project schedule.
Qualifications /certifications
Professional certifications, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE2, are highly valued and demonstrate expertise in project management methodologies. Proficiency in project management software and tools is essential for creating detailed schedules and Gantt charts.
