Provide legal advice to senior management and business units on insurance policies, contractual matters, ensuring alignment with Hong Kong's Insurance Ordinance and regulations
Draft, review, and negotiate a range of contracts, including insurance policies, reinsurance agreements, vendor contracts, and partnership deals, mitigating legal and commercial risks
Ensure compliance with regulations set by the Insurance Authority (IA), including licensing, solvency, and reporting requirements, while staying abreast of legal and regulatory updates
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and compliance risks related to underwriting, claims, and customer interactions, collaborating with risk management teams
Advise on corporate governance, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements for board operations, key personnel, and control functions as mandated by the IA
Manage legal disputes, claims litigation, and regulatory investigations, coordinating with external counsel or representing the firm in arbitration/mediation as needed
Develop and maintain internal policies on data protection
Coordinate with legal teams across jurisdictions to align strategies and address cross-border legal issues, particularly in mainland China and the Asia-Pacific region
Serve as a key liaison with regulators, auditors, law firms, and industry bodies (e.g., Hong Kong Federation of Insurers), preparing legal documentation for inquiries or audits
Report to senior leadership on legal risks, compliance status, and strategic recommendations, balancing legal precision with business objectives
Requirements:
Law degree from a recognized institution and qualification to practice in Hong Kong or a common law jurisdiction
Minimum of 3-5 years of post-qualification experience, with a focus on insurance law and regulatory compliance in a multinational setting
In-depth knowledge of Hong Kong's insurance regulations, corporate governance, and data privacy laws
Fluency in English and Cantonese required; proficiency in Mandarin highly desirable
Proven ability to manage cross-jurisdictional legal matters and collaborate with global teams
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with a strategic and commercial mindset.
