Maintenance Fitter
Location: Fermoy, County Cork
Salary: €49,000-€54,000 per year
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Shift: 12-hour, 8-hour, day and night shifts available
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Fitter to join a busy sawmill plant in Fermoy. This critical role ensures that all mechanical systems and equipment operate at peak performance. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in heavy industry maintenance, a commitment to safety, and a drive for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and internal standards.
- Diagnose faults, conduct repairs, and perform routine maintenance on plant equipment.
- Act as the first responder for mechanical breakdowns.
- Carry out preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, supporting process improvements.
- Maintain and repair various systems, including:
- Motors and gearboxes (up to 125kW)
- Chain drives and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
- Mobile plant equipment (log handlers, fork trucks)
- Boilers and drying kilns (low-pressure hot water systems)
- Manufacture and modify spare parts using milling, turning, welding, and other techniques.
- Track spare part usage to ensure timely replacements.
- Support plant upgrades, continuous improvement projects, and sawmill operations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Time-served mechanical fitter with relevant qualifications in Mechanical Automation, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Toolmaking, or a related field.
- Experience in heavy construction plant or mining is a plus.
- Additional safety training (e.g., Safe Pass, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) is beneficial.
- At least 5 years of post-qualification experience in a similar role, ideally within heavy industry.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors year-round in a fast-paced environment.
