Systems Administrator, Permanent Opportunity based in Cork.
The role of Systems Administrator is a key technical role within the IT department. our client is currently recruiting an experienced Systems Administrator with a broad range of experience. The candidate will report to the head of IT, or any person designated by the head of IT. The candidate will perform any functions and responsibilities as determined by the head of IT including those which fall outside of the scope of this document but fall within the general term of IT Systems Administration. You will play a major role in the organisation's IT network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform server administration tasks (i.e. user/group, security permissions, group policies, print services); research event-log warnings and errors; monitor resources to ensure that systems architecture components work together seamlessly.
- Monitor data-centre health using existing management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers when needed.
- Maintain internal infrastructure requirements, including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates; AV systems, MDM systems, Internet & Email connectivity, LANs, WANs, and network segments connected by various technologies i.e. Fibre, Microwave etc.
- Assist the help desk and other team members with troubleshooting to identify root cause, and provide technical support as required.
- Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups.
- Liaise closely with the existing IT team, under the direction of the head of IT.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing outages / faults, and assessing impact of issues on end users.
- Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing upgrades to IT infrastructure.
- Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
- Responsibility for capacity and storage planning.
Required Skills:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, BIS or a closely related field.
- 3-5 years of systems administration experience on enterprise sized networks.
- Certifications in Microsoft, VMware, Fortinet, Veeam or other network related fields are an advantage.
- Experience with enterprise backup and recovery procedures, systems performance-monitoring tools, AD, virtualization, Disaster Recovery, Cloud technologies.
- Experience in project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Azure, O365).
- Experience or knowledge of analysing and repairing large-scale distributed systems; creating volumes and assigning them to servers; and remote replication.
- Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools.
- A proven track record of developing and implementing ICT strategy and plans.
- Strong knowledge of implementing, and effectively developing helpdesk and ICT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
- Management of mobile devices using an MDM or alternative solution.
- Cyber security defence, using existing tools and recommending / trialling new technologies.
