The Automation Engineer will be responsible for specifying, purchasing, and implementing new manufacturing solutions, and ensuring that these align with internal and customer requirements for new product introductions. Reporting to the Senior Automation Engineer, this position involves cross-functional collaboration and supplier management to deliver compliant and efficient automated manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead projects for the introduction of new automated equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Develop and execute automation strategies aligned with customer and business needs.
- Manage external equipment suppliers to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet specification.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, validation, and health & safety requirements.
- Support cross-functional teams during new equipment installation, training, and handover.
- Identify and introduce innovative automation methods and technologies.
- Represent the company in customer-facing meetings to support ongoing technical development.
- Act as a subject matter expert in automation and develop in-house technical capabilities.
- Comply with all site EHS and corporate policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- NFQ Level 7 degree or higher in Engineering (preferably Automation, Mechatronics, or Mechanical).
- Minimum 3 years' engineering experience, ideally in high-volume manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs (Allen Bradley/Siemens), Cognex vision systems, and industrial networks.
- Familiar with MES, Batch Manufacturing, SQL databases, and machine control systems.
- Experience with manufacturing automation validation and GAMP 5 guidelines.
- Project management experience and Lean Six Sigma certification are desirable.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
