Job Overview:
The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for overseeing the procurement function, ensuring effective management of supplier relationships, driving cost savings, and leading contract negotiations. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with at least 5 years of experience in purchasing, particularly within the civils, construction, or infrastructure sectors. The role also involves managing purchasing activities across multiple projects, driving process improvements, and delivering value to the business through strategic sourcing and cost management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the purchasing function across a range of projects, ensuring effective cost management and delivery of cost-saving initiatives.
- Manage supplier relationships, ensuring the best terms, pricing, and quality of service.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers, ensuring value for money and adherence to agreed terms.
- Work closely with project managers and cross-functional teams to identify purchasing needs and deliver cost-effective solutions.
- Oversee the procurement of materials, services, and subcontractors for projects in the civils, construction, and infrastructure sectors.
- Monitor supplier performance, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and service delivery standards.
- Drive purchasing strategies, ensuring a strong focus on cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Support project management teams with timely purchasing and ensure alignment with project schedules and budgets.
- Conduct market analysis to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and optimise purchasing strategies.
- Prepare and present regular purchasing reports to senior management and key stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing, with a focus on cost savings, supplier management, and contract negotiations.
- Proven experience within the civils, construction, or infrastructure sectors is preferred.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of achieving favourable contract terms.
- Strong knowledge of purchasing processes, materials management, and supply chain operations.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Proficiency in purchasing software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- A degree or master's level qualification in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or a related field is essential.
