A leading global alternative asset management firm is seeking a senior Compliance Officer to support its Japan business.
This is a highly strategic role, positioned as a potential key person within the local entity. You will lead business compliance activities, support regulatory engagement, and provide internal advisory services while working closely with stakeholders across Japan and the wider APAC region.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end compliance operations for the Japan business within an alternative asset management environment.
- Act as a key compliance advisor supporting the business on regulatory matters and internal governance.
- Handle regulatory authority communication, including preparation and review of documentation.
- Review business materials and provide guidance to internal departments to ensure compliance alignment.
- Draft and update internal policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
- Collaborate with regional compliance teams and stakeholders across APAC to ensure consistent regulatory standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 7+ years of compliance experience within an asset management firm.
- Mandatory experience related to the Type II Financial Instruments Business license (第二種金融商品取引業).
- Strong knowledge of compliance frameworks within alternative investment products and regulated financial environments.
Soft Skills:
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leadership.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to operate independently in a key-person role.
Language Requirements:
- Japanese: Native level
- English: Intermediate to Business level (able to communicate effectively in professional settings)
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of Type II financial business regulations and licensing requirements.
- Experience supporting compliance matters across international/regional teams.
