As the Data & AI Associate Director, you will lead data capability development in Japan, shaping strategy, overseeing enterprise data initiatives, and driving adoption of analytics and AI solutions across commercial, medical, and patient-focused functions. This role provides strategic leadership with hands-on influence over data engineering, AI/ML delivery, and cross-functional digital transformation.
Define data and AI strategies aligned with business and IT objectives.
Lead delivery of data engineering, advanced analytics, and AI/ML solutions.
Oversee data platform integration, ingestion pipelines, and model deployment.
Manage data governance including taxonomy, ontology, and metadata standards.
Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure aligned execution.
Drive adoption and operationalization of data products across business functions.
Provide advisory support to senior business and IT leaders on data-driven initiatives.
8+ years delivering enterprise data solutions across data engineering, analytics, and AI/ML.
Experience designing and managing data lake architectures and data integration frameworks.
Hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms and the modern data stack (e.g., AWS, Snowflake, dbt).
Experience managing cross-functional teams and vendor partnerships.
Understanding of healthcare data standards and privacy/compliance requirements.
Background supporting commercial, medical, market access, or patient services functions in life sciences.
Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration abilities.
Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Strategic thinking with the ability to execute hands-on when required.
High ownership mindset and ability to work within matrixed environments.
Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
Japanese: Fluent.
English: Intermediate to Business level.
Experience developing digital health solutions.
Master's degree or MBA.
Leadership experience in large-scale transformation programs.
