Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to supervise the delivery of utility upgrade works in the Cork City area. This position involves overseeing the main contractor's performance, ensuring adherence to specifications, compliance with health and safety regulations, and alignment with the utility's standards.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision
- Oversee all on-site activities, ensuring work is carried out to the required quality, specifications, and timelines.
- Monitor the contractor's performance and resolve on-site issues promptly.
Compliance and Quality Control
- Ensure all works comply with relevant standards, relevant regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Conduct regular quality checks, inspections, and audits of materials and workmanship.
Health and Safety Oversight
- Monitor the implementation of the contractor's health and safety plan.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and welfare legislation.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a point of contact between the utility body, contractors, and local authorities.
- Provide regular progress updates and attend site meetings as required.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, including daily logs, inspection reports, and site correspondence.
- Provide detailed progress and performance reports as well as taking detailed notes on any claims that arise.
Risk Management
- Identify and manage risks, escalating significant issues to the relevant parties when necessary.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience supervising the delivery of infrastructure projects, ideally in water supply or utilities.
- Relevant degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of water main construction techniques and materials.
- Comprehensive understanding of Irish construction regulations, standards, and safety practices.
- Demonstrable experience in managing contractors and overseeing infrastructure works from initiation to completion.
This role is site-based and will require regular travel within the Cork City area. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate flexibility and commitment to ensure project goals are met.
